Strategically positioned in the beautiful month of September, it has captured Hollywood's attention as a scouting ground for new film-making talent and an absolute "must attend" for anyone in the business of buying and selling short films. The Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films took place on September 16-22, 2003. ------------------------------------------ LA Short Film Festival: Official Selection for Competition www.lashortsfest.com Los Angeles, California The "LA Shorts Fest" is the Academy Award favorite going into the awards season. The festival screens 300 works, sometimes in the most unique of circumstances. The festival supports its efforts year round with outdoor screenings and my personal favorite, the "Dive-In" - a screening that takes place outdoors where participants are encouraged to view films while relaxing in a giant pool. It must be seen to be believed. "Jaws" is fare more entertaining to watch this way I can guarantee you. The Deep Ellum Film Festival (often referred to as "DE/F2") is unique in its mission of promoting the art of filmmaking while supporting the ongoing battle with cancer attracting many celebrities affected by the disease. This charitable event's worthy cause is more than enough reason to attend, but the outstanding program makes it worth traveling halfway across the country to experience. Deep Ellum is ranked top ten for festival get aways. The Deep Ellum Film Festival played from October 22nd-30th. ----------------------------------------- Marco Island Film Festival: Official Selection for Competition www.marcoislandfilmfest.com Marco Island, Florida Marco Island is a truly beautiful oasis off the coast of Florida just outside of Naples which is reason enough to plan a trip. Films are shown at several venues, but the best is at Marco Movies which features stadium seating as well as dinner theatre style seats. Audiences viewing films at this venue can order from a full menu of food items along with beer and wine. Filmmakers are treated to a champaigne cruise, elegant parties and may choose to participate in a host of summer activities including jet-skiing and more. Guests are put up in hotels and private homes which often end up becoming the unlikely location for all-night parties. Oh, and they screen great films as well. Marco Island is ranked top ten for festival getaways. The annual Marco Island Film Festival showcases and promotes film projects developed by independent film makers while creating opportunities through education and awareness for students pursuing a career in the film industry. The 2003 Festival is expected to draw more than 15,000 participants and attendees The Marco Island Film Festival played from November 5th-9th. |
